Wooden Log Water Mains

Prior to 1836, Chicopee was supplied mainly by private wells and springs. The water mains laid at the time were wooden logs with holes bored into them, as well as lead and vitrified clay pipes, varying in diameter from 1/2 inch to 6 inches.
