The City of Chicopee today announced it will seek development proposals for the former Facemate (Lot #4) property adjacent to the Chicopee Senior Center.

This site was part of environmental remediation efforts that included the entire Facemate property. Major infrastructure upgrades such as water, sewer, and electrical were also included through a previous MassWorks grant.

The request for proposal (RFP) process will solicit bids from developers to purchase and develop the 3.859 acres of land located on W. Main Street, east of the City's newly constructed Senior Center.

The City is interested in redevelopment that provides a diverse mix of uses on the site that will directly and indirectly enhance the area as a place to live, work, shop, dine, and visit.

"I have to thank our Community Development and Planning Departments for their continued efforts given the myriad of environmental challenges there," said Mayor Kos. "This is an opportunity for the City to continue clean up and re-purpose a site to be used for many years to come."

"I also have to thank our City Council," continued Mayor Kos. "Without their commitment and support we would not be able to be where we are today."

"I am very excited to see this property moving closer to private development," said City Council President John Vieau. "We have an opportunity to enhance the site with development while getting it back on the tax roll and generating revenue for the City."

The request for proposals was officially released on March 23, 2016 and the proposals are due on May 5, 2016.
