The City Council last light approved an order from Mayor Kos to accept the FY2016 State 911 training and EMD Reimbursement grant of $203,638.94 from the Massachusetts Office of Public Safety and Security.

The grant will pay for 135 Police officers annual training that sends them to the Enhanced 911 Training Center to receive instruction on a variety of different techniques to help better communicate with the public in times of emergency. It will also pay for overtime pay for officers to cover those who are away while training.

“This continues to be a very useful tool for the Police Department to enable us to assist victims with early life saving techniques prior to the on-site arrival of the Police and Fire Departments,” said Chief William Jebb.

“These funds are essential to provide the necessary training for our officers,” said Mayor Richard Kos. “This will allow us to maintain our robust emergency response services our residents have come to appreciate and expect.”
