[ARCHIVED] Completion of Phase 1 of the Senior Fitness Trail - behind RiverMills Center

Completion of Phase 1 of the Senior Fitness Trail - behind RiverMills Center

Mayor Vieau, PNCU President Jim Kelly, and members of The Polish National Credit Union team came out to celebrate the completion of Phase 1 of the Senior Fitness Trail located behind RiverMills Center Chicopee Council on Aging. The Fitness Trail received funding from the City through the Community Development Block Grant and Polish National Credit Union as part of its multi-year commitment to increasing recreational opportunities throughout the City. Phase 1 consists of three stations of Fitness equipment specifically chosen to benefit seniors and persons with disabilities.

“We are pleased to partner with PNCU on this initiative that enhances the river walk,” stated Mayor Vieau. "We are looking forward to the expansion of the fitness trail as it continues to improve with the addition of more equipment in the next phase. This is a tremendously important key to promoting physical and emotional health."

“In 2019, the Polish National Credit Union made a $30,000 commitment over a 5 year period to build the RiverMills Senior Center Fitness Park and it has been wonderful seeing this project come to fruition. When approached with this opportunity, we could not resist," stated CEO Jim Kelly. "It is crucial to give back to the community that has given so much to us - especially our senior citizens. Not only will the fitness center benefit the RiverMills Senior Center, but this fitness trail is an excellent addition to the community as a whole.”

“In a time where there seems to be an abundance of grim news, it is nice to hear some good news. We were so happy to hear about the Phase I completion of the RiverMills Senior Center Fitness Trail - a place where our City’s seniors can enjoy outdoor fitness equipment to maintain healthy, active lifestyles.”
