THE CITY OF CHICOPEE RELEASES TWO (2) REQUESTS REDEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS

FOR TWO (2) CITY-OWNED FORMER BROWNFIELDS PROPERTIES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICOPEE – January 6, 2020: The City of Chicopee, through its Purchasing Department, is soliciting redevelopment proposals for two (2) City-owned properties in Chicopee Center and Chicopee Falls. The Former Racing Oil Gas Station (Bid #20-01) and the Facemate Lot #1 (former Baskin parcel) (Bid #20-02) Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are available which detail the process interested teams will follow to submit a development proposal and the evaluation process the City will follow for all received proposals.

The Facemate Lot #1 is a 4.05-acre parcel located adjacent to the Chicopee River with an 11,000 sq. ft. former brick warehouse included on the property. Lot #1 is located adjacent to the Chicopee Senior Center and RiverMills Assisted Living.

The Racing Oil parcel is a 0.28-acre parcel located in Chicopee Center that is zoned Business B. The City became the owner in 2012 through a “tax title” process.

“The Racing Oil and Baskin properties each provide a unique opportunity for redevelopment in two neighborhoods that are currently undergoing a major revitalization,” said Lee M. Pouliot, Director of Planning & Development. “As former Brownfields Properties, the City has invested significant federal, state and local resources to address environmental conditions to allow developers to maximize the development potential of each property,” Pouliot continued.

The City will evaluate proposals based on the RiverMills Vision Plan http://chicopeema.gov/562/RiverMills-at-Chicopee-Falls for Facemate Lot #1 and the West End Brownfields Area-Wide Plan http://chicopeema.gov/193/Concept-Plan for the Racing Oil Parcel.
