City of Chicopee’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Scheduled

CHICOPEE – The City of Chicopee will hold its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 6, 2019 beginning at 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM. With the expectation of over 400 children and their families to the downtown area and Market Square Island, the streets of the downtown area will be closed from 3:30 PM till 8:00 PM. No parking will begin at 10:00 PM on Thursday, December 5, 2019.

The event will include holiday music provided by DJ Nick Gagne of Preztige Worldwide and local businesses singing Christmas Carols on the front steps of City Hall with complimentary holiday treats being handed out throughout the evening.

The Chicopee Comprehensive Culinary Department will provide a cookie decorating station where children can decorate their own holiday-themed cookies. Local businesses will host holiday craft tables where the children can put together gifts of their own. The Knights of Columbus #4044 will provide hot chocolate and turkey soup. Volunteers will be on hand to offer donuts from Bernardinos Bakery and Bob’s Bakery.

Santa Clause will ride into town with Mayor Kos on an antique Fire Truck to greet the crowd and to officially light the tree. Santa will also visit with all the children in attendance and provide them with a gift bag.

Columbia Gas, PeoplesBank, Pilgrim Interiors, Polish National Credit Union, and Westfield Bank are the major sponsors of the event.
