PRESS RELEASE
TEMPORARY ACCESS PLAN FOR CHICOPEE CITY HALL
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHICOPEE – The Front Street entrance of the City Hall Annex will close beginning November 4, 2019. It will remain closed for the duration of reconstruction of the existing stairs and elevated walk system. When the entrance closes, access into the City Hall & the Annex buildings will be relocated to the alleyway doors between the City Hall & the Annex buildings. Temporary scaffolding for overhead protection will be erected above these temporary access doors.
“I thank our workers and the public for their cooperation and patience as the repairs and improvements to City Hall are being addressed while we continue to remain open for business,” said Mayor Richard J. Kos.
During the next four weeks, the existing Front Street stairs and ramp will be demolished and reconstructed as part of the City Hall Rehabilitation Project. This is being done at this time to get ahead of the probable weather issues in the coming months.
The accessible parking and pathway for persons with disabilities will be available from between the old Rivoli Theatre building and the Old Library (see Public HC Parking on the map attached).
The construction zones, public parking, and pedestrian access routes are also marked on the attached map and will be posted on the City’s website: www.chicopeema.gov. Updates about the construction will be provided as information becomes available.
“Replacement of the stairs and elevated walk to the Front Street entrance to City Hall Annex is a critical component in ensuring ADA/MAAB compliant access to the buildings and the future renovated Annex. This component will ensure appropriate access to the facility in the future,” stated Lee Pouliot, Director of Planning and Development, “I appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”
