FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICOPEE – An order authorizing Mayor Richard J. Kos to convey certain real estate in the City of Chicopee known as General’s or King’s Row, was approved on Thursday, September 19, 2019, by the Chicopee City Council.

General’s Row, located on Fredette Street and just outside the Westover Gates, is a property acquired by the City of Chicopee from the U.S. Navy in 2011. It consists of five buildings that once housed Westover’s top officers.

The City issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) in January of 2019, for the disposition of the property and an agreement has been conveyed to the City’s preferred developer, N. Riley Realty, LLC of 77 Mass Avenue in Chicopee. The company has proposed to develop five single-family homes and has demonstrated the capacity and financing to complete the redevelopment.

Previous attempts to sell were stymied due to title issues which have now lapsed by the passage of time.

“It’s great to be able to get five properties back in use and on the tax rolls,” said Chicopee Mayor Richard J. Kos. “We are revitalizing a neighborhood with a history of service to our country.”

“The Planning Department is excited to see the General’s Row houses rehabilitated to provide housing opportunities within the City once again. With the revitalization of these homes, the unique role they played in the history of the City and Westover Air Reserve Base will be preserved for future generations,” said Lee Pouliot, Department of Planning & Development Director.
