[ARCHIVED] Decreased EEE Risk Level in Chicopee

Important information

Chicopee EEE Risk Level has been Reduced from High to Moderate

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICOPEE – The City of Chicopee’s EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis) risk has been reduced from high to moderate but residents should still be diligent when it comes to their own personal protection. Our Health Department webpage has information on EEE and also WNV (West Nile Virus).

After receiving confirmation that the horse diagnosed with EEE and originally believed to be from Granby, was actually stabled in Connecticut. We strive to obtain the best, most accurate information possible but in this case, the original information we had was incorrect.

The good news is that there is no longer any data that suggests that Chicopee is at high risk for EEE. At this time, based on the local mosquito activity, habitat, and some evidence of EEE activity in the Pioneer Valley in previous years, Chicopee is considered to be at moderate risk. Moderate risk is consistent with most other towns in the Pioneer Valley.
