[ARCHIVED] Chicopee Announces Educational Opportunities for Chicopee Rental Property Owners

The Office of Community Development is once again sponsoring a series of three rental property owner sessions. The sessions will be held on consecutive Tuesday evenings, April 16th, April 23rd, and April 30th.  The workshops will cover the following:

Workshop 1.  The Rules of the Game. 

Topics:   Tenancy from application to occupancy.  Strategies for applicant screening; sample applications; credit and CORI checks; references?:  Fair Housing do’s and don’ts; Rental Agreements vs Leases; Terms to consider including in your agreements.

Workshop 2.  Avoiding Code Problems. 

Topics:  The Implied Warranty of Habitability.  Complying with the State Sanitary Code, other building codes; Massachusetts lead paint requirements and the federal Repair, Renovation and Painting (RRP) requirements. Pre-occupancy inspections, ongoing inspections, documenting conditions.

Workshop 3.  Tenant Rights, Tenant Responsibilities and Evictions. 

Topics:  Rental property as a business. Mutual expectations and requirements;   Strategies to a successful relationship; Eviction process.

The sessions are free to Chicopee property owners.  To register call the Office of Community Development at 413-594-1490 or electronically to jdias@chicopeema.gov   While pre-registration is not required, all pre-registered Chicopee Rental property owners will receive a free copy of  the Property Management Manual for Massachusetts Rental Owners (6th Edition).
