[ARCHIVED] Chicopee Fire Department Receives New Apparatus

On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, Mayor Richard J. Kos and the Chicopee City Council will visit Station 1 to officially receive a new front line apparatus before the City Council Meeting this evening. The fire department recently purchased a Pierce Arrow XT 100 foot aerial platform.  This will replace Tower 1, which has been in service as a front line apparatus since 1996.

In January of 2018 the Chicopee City Council approved an order from Mayor Richard J. Kos for the appropriation of $1,280,000 for the purchase of this new aerial platform truck.

“The City of Chicopee welcomes this major component of our City’s firefighting arsenal and I thank the City Council for their continued support as we address our City’s capital needs in a systematic way,” said Mayor Richard J. Kos.

Chief Desmarais is excited to unveil this much needed apparatus.  He is also inviting all Chicopee Public and Private Schools to participate in a contest to name this new vehicle.  Each school may submit one name in writing to the Office of the Fire Chief, by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018.  The winning name will be announced and the winning school will receive a visit from the new Ladder Truck.

Chief Desmarais is grateful to the Chicopee City Council and to Mayor Richard J. Kos for making the purchase of this much needed vehicle possible, and for their concern for public safety and fire prevention.

All are welcome to attend this ceremony. For additional information please contact Chief Desmarais office at 413-594-1630.
