Mayor Kos welcomed Curt Spaulding the Environmental Protection Agency’s Administrator for the New England Region (region 1) to Chicopee this morning for a meeting regarding the schedule for Chicopee’s combined sewer overflow projects and an update on cleanup at the former Uniroyal site.

“I am pleased to welcome Mr. Spaulding to Chicopee to discuss the many environmental projects that are ongoing in our City,” said Mayor Kos.

Following their meeting at City Hall which included City Planner Lee Pouliot, DPW Project Advisor Tom Hamel, and Community Development Director Michael Vedovelli, the group toured the Uniroyal site to update Mr. Spaulding on what’s being done there.

“It was a productive discussion and I thank Mr. Spaulding for taking the time to come out,” said Kos. “I explained the current aggressive schedule being placed upon our City with the mandated time frame in which the CSO work must be completed and continued the discussion on relief from the burdens this puts on our City and its rate payers.”
