Tuesday evening, the Chicopee City Council approved Mayor Richard Kos’ request for an appropriation of $1,012,200 for the 2018 Road Resurfacing project. This project is eligible for 100% reimbursement from Chapter 90, a Massachusetts DOT program that funds road, highway, and other transportation projects throughout the Commonwealth.
The 2018 Road Resurfacing project consists of paving and related work such as structure adjustments, handicap ramp installation, berm and driveway apron replacement, pavement markings and basic landscaping on several streets throughout the City where potholes and other road related issues can no longer be fixed with small patch work.
The areas included in this project are:
- Chicopee Street (Meadow Street to Marshall Avenue)
- Pendleton Avenue (Memorial Drive westerly to Simard Drive)
- Simard Drive
- East Main Street (Large patch areas)
- James Street (Large patch area westerly of Anderson Road)
“These state highway funds are an important component of our road improvement program and I thank the Baker-Polito administration and our local delegation for making these funds available to Chicopee,” said Mayor Kos
Work is expected to begin in early summer once a bid is selected and contract signed.
