Mayor Richard Kos has announced the swearing-in of new Police Captain Eric Watson, Police Lieutenant Hamilton Wray, and Police Sergeant Jan Wegrzynek which filled existing vacancies in the department that took place in a ceremony at City Hall today that included family and fellow officers.

“I am pleased that we are able to continue to maintain the level and quality of leadership in public safety in the City of Chicopee,” said Mayor Kos.

“I thank the Mayor and City Council for their continued support. I also would like to thank the families for their support through this time consuming and difficult process,” said Police Chief William Jebb. “These officers are valuable assets to the department and I look forward to continuing to work with them.”

Eric Watson has been with the Chicopee Police Department since 1999. He earned his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Graduate Certificate in Forensic Criminology from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell in 2010 and his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University in 1997. Watson has completed over 2,600 hours of various Law Enforcement training including programs with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Massachusetts State Police Academy.

Hamilton Wray has been with the Chicopee Police Department since 2003, previously serving in the Springfield Police Department. He earned his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College in 2005. Wray is also a member of the Chicopee Police Department Boat Team and Special Response Team.

Jan Wegrzynek has been with the Chicopee Police Department since 2000. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College. Wegrzynek served as the Head of the Firearms Records Bureau for the Chicopee Police Department.
