CHICOPEE – The City of Chicopee today announced it has been awarded a grant of two automated external defibrillators (AED’s) from the KEVS Foundation, an organization built to educate and help prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) in children and young adults.

Susan Canning, the organizations Director, started the KEVS Foundation when her son Kevin tragically died in 2011 of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. In Kevin’s memory, his mother has dedicated her life to raising awareness of “Sudden Cardiac Arrest” through education, cardiovascular screenings for young persons and to providing state of the art Automatic Emergency Defibrillators (AED) to communities.

“We are pleased to be able to partner with the KEVS Foundation to help assure the safety throughout our schools,” said Mayor Richard Kos. “Thanks to this grant, Chicopee students are increasingly protected from SCA.”

“I am looking forward to a long working relationship with the City of Chicopee,” said KEVS Foundation Director Susan Canning. “Together we will be making Chicopee a Heart Safe community or our Children.”
