Mayor Richard Kos has announced the swearing in of five new Firefighters that took place in a ceremony at the Chicopee Safety Complex last Friday that included family and friends of those selected.
The five new Firefighters, Zachary Beaulieu, Christopher Ferrari, Steven Laurin, Marc Stiles, and Kirsten Therrien, have completed their training at the Western Massachusetts Fire Training Academy in Springfield and began working with the Chicopee Fire Department after being sworn-in.
Zachary Beaulieu is a 2009 graduate of Westfield State University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Communication.
Christopher Ferrari is a former Boatswains Mate in the United States Coast Guard.
Steven Laurin is a graduate of Holyoke Community College, earning his Associate’s degree in Psychology.
Marc Stiles, a former Army National Guard Military Police Officer, is a graduate of the Springfield Technical Community College EMT program.
Kirsten Therrien, a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Mt. Holyoke College, earned her Master of Business Administration with a focus in Healthcare Administration from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass.
“I welcome these new firefighters to our Fire Department,” said Mayor Kos. “It is important to maintain a full complement of personnel in public safety and I would like to thank the City Council for continuing their budgetary support.”
“The Chicopee Fire Department is pleased to welcome these new firefighters to the force,” said Fire Chief Dean Desmarais. “I would like to thank Mayor Kos and City Council members for their continued support maintaining the department staffing levels. After a brief orientation period, the new firefighters will be assigned to working
groups, this will bolster our emergency response forces with the skills and knowledge received during their ten weeks of training at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.”
The new officers were sworn-in as Firefighter Recruits earlier this year before beginning their training at Firefighter academy in September.
