Mayor Richard J. Kos announced the formation of a School Advisory Committee which will be utilized to look at possible options and opportunities to be considered in our school system which may improve how we operate. He asked that they report back by the end of January of 2018.
The actual committee will consist of nine members chaired by John Mruk, a former President of the Chicopee Teachers Association as well as a former member of the Chicopee School Committee who currently teaches at the Elms College. He will be joined by Joel McAuliffe, who was recently elected to the Chicopee City Council and currently serves as an Aide to Massachusetts State Senator Eric Lesser; Shane Brooks a current City Councilor and former school committee member and parent of a Chicopee student; Sandra Roy, a current teacher in the Chicopee school system; Janet Reid, a principal in the Chicopee school system; Erin Hurley, a teacher in the Springfield school system; Joshua Clark, a teacher at Chicopee Comprehensive High School who is in his second year of teaching; Tricia Bouchie, a resident and parent of students in the Chicopee school system and Gary LaPerle, a resident and retired efficiency engineer from the private sector.
The actual committee will be joined by ad hoc members consisting of a number of individuals and students who have expressed an interest in this process as well as current and elected members of the Chicopee City Council and Chicopee School Committee.
The first meeting will take place on Monday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Chicopee Public Library in the Community room. It is anticipated that future meetings will be scheduled at least weekly at this location or such other locations as the committee deems most convenient. All meetings will be posted
The members of the committee who will be participating in the review analysis of the current operations and budget of the school department will also be welcoming comments from members of the ad hoc committee and others from the public who will be afforded opportunities to comment at each meeting.
