[ARCHIVED] Chicopee offers assistance to first-time homebuyers

Chicopee Canal Walk

Mayor Richard Kos is pleased to partner with MassHousing to provide resources for first-time homebuyers. Utilizing federal HOME Investment Partnership Program, the Mayor has committed $90,000 to continue the City’s Buyer Assistance Program.

“The City’s program has been tremendously helpful to moderate income households seeking to buy homes in our target neighborhoods,” said Mayor Kos. “The infusion of additional resources by MassHousing will certainly support our efforts and these buyers.”

MassHousing is a quasi-public agency often referred to as the state’s affordable housing bank. Through local lenders, MassHousing provides financing for low- and moderate-income first-time homebuyers. This summer, MassHousing is providing special assistance in the form of a $1,500 closing cost credit for borrowers at or below 80% of area median income.

The City’s guidelines and application are available on the City’s website at www.chicopeema.gov. Information on the MassHousing program is available at www.masshousing.com/summer.
