Mayor Richard Kos welcomed Tru Hotels by Hilton to Chicopee at their groundbreaking ceremony today.

Tru Hotels by Hilton are a modern and affordable hotel experience that fall within the midscale market range. The 108-room hotel will be built on the site of the former Days Inn on Memorial Drive and is expected to be completed in 2018. Developer Dennis Patel and his son Hershal, currently operate the Hampton Inn and Residence Inn on Memorial Drive in addition to a number of hotels throughout the region. They expect the $11 million investment to create over 30 new jobs and serve not only Chicopee but the entire region.

“We share in the excitement of further investment along the Memorial Drive corridor,” said Mayor Kos. “This continues the rebirth of that area over the past two decades.”

Joining Mayor Kos at today’s ceremony were State Senator James Welch, State Representatives Joseph Wagner, Michael Finn and Angelo Puppolo, and members of Chicopee’s City Council and other elected city officials. Representatives from Florence Bank, Granite State Investments, and Tru Hotels also joined the Patel family in celebrating the groundbreaking of this new project.
