The City of Chicopee hosted its 17th annual park clean-up on Saturday May 6, 2017. Funds were donated by local businesses to help clean parks across Chicopee. Over 300 volunteers participated alongside the Chicopee Parks and Recreation Department, and seven City parks were cleaned with over 400 bags of leaves and 25 bags of trash removed by DPW crews. Two parks, Lincoln Grove and Williams, each received 90 cubic yards of mulch throughout their play structures thus increasing the safety surface area for the children that play at those parks.
Mayor Richard Kos, who started the clean-up during his first time as Mayor was glad to see yet another successful cleanup. “It is such a win-win for the City,” said Mayor Kos. “Helping our Parks Department maintain our 29 parks and fields, our youth help clean the fields on which they play and earn money to support their sports. We thank our local businesses for their continued support.”
Below is a list of the parks, the groups that participated, and those who donated to this year’s event.
