On Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the 12:00 p.m., the Chicopee Falls Eagles Club presented the Chicopee Fire Department with a $4,500 dollar donation.
This donation is being made in honor of their past president Bob Wresien. The donation was made during a small ceremony held at the Eagles Club located at 17 Sheridan Street.
The funds from this gift will be used to purchase an incident command board and a hydrogen cyanide gas meter. The incident command board will improve operations at various emergency responses. Hydrogen cyanide is a by-product of combustion of materials that are used by most individuals during everyday living. Some of these materials include insulation, carpet, clothing and synthetics. As the hydrogen cyanide gas produced during burning is approximately 35 times more toxic to firefighters, this is a potentially lifesaving meter.
Mr. Wresien was President of the Eagles Club in Chicopee Falls in 2010 and 2011. The Eagles Club and the Family of Mr. Wresien are grateful for the assistance of the Chicopee Fire Department; this donation was made in Mr. Wresien's memory.
