The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has announced that West Nile virus (WNV) has been detected in one mosquito collected in Chicopee, Massachusetts. MDPH conducts ongoing surveillance throughout Massachusetts daily and collects mosquitos in Chicopee approximately every 10 days. Since June 29, 2016, MDPH has collected over 1,700 mosquitos in Chicopee. Only one mosquito of approximately the 1,700 samples tested positive. To date, there have not been any humans infected with WNV in Chicopee.
