Please note that even if you get a signal, Chi-Fi coverage can be spotty, specially towards the edges.
The City of Chicopee is proud to provide public WiFi at selected downtown areas via a partnership with MassIT. In the Fall of 2014, MassIT, the state’s lead agency for technology and innovation, launched a free public WiFi pilot program with three Gateway Cities: Chicopee, Springfield, and Westfield.
A goal was to help bridge the digital divide that exists in some parts of western and central Massachusetts and disproportionately affects low income households. Lack of internet access translates to fewer opportunities for residents and businesses to engage, grow, and prosper in today’s digital economy. Similarly, access to the internet delivers economic and educational opportunities and benefits to residents and businesses alike.
MassIT staff partnered with the City of Chicopee at the local level to drive adoption and manage the pilot. MassIT provided needed IT equipment and connectivity; Chicopee provided power and the installation of equipment on municipal buildings. The City of Chicopee also promotes the new service to residents. The project serves to test and refine a new kind of state-municipal partnership.
The service is branded Chi-Fi and provides outdoors WiFi access at some downtown areas.
Your access to the Service is completely at the discretion of The City, and your access to the Service may be blocked, suspended, or terminated at any time for any reason including, relocation of equipment to areas identified by the City as higher priorities or of more strategic nature.
