Our Official Mission:

The Chicopee Department of Planning & Development was established "...to administer governmental and municipal functions and responsibilities in the field of city planning; to coordinate efforts directed toward the future development of the city; to assure its continued improvement, consistent with its physical, social and economic conditions and resources...." From Chicopee City Code Chapter 75.

Departmental responsibilities include administrative work for the Planning Board, Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, Historical Commission, Church Street Historic District Commission, and the Springfield Street Historic District Commission. The Department also acts as advisor to the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, municipal departments and all municipal boards and commissions on planning related matters.

Our Volunteers:

The boards and commissions entrusted to our oversight are comprised of volunteer citizens who give their time to develop policy and make decisions that impact our city's development. We are proud to serve our volunteer boards and commissions; we cannot do our jobs without them. If you have an interest in becoming a board or commission member, please contact us.
