CHICOPEE – The Chicopee City Council met on Wednesday evening June 26, 2018 to vote on the City of Chicopee Budget for FY 2019. The Council voted 11 to 2 to approve the budget with no changes.
The approved budget includes a $4,089,341.00 increase to the School Department budget which represents a 5% increase from last year.
The City Hall General Fund has increased by $2,043,088.00 which represents a 2.5% increase from last year.
Overall the FY 2019 budget is up 3.6%, or an additional $6,781,332.24 in comparison with FY 2018. The budget increases were mainly attributed to the City’s contribution to education, increased health insurance costs, public safety, water and sewer bonding, sanitation, and pension costs.
“This budget allows us to maintain the excellent level of services for our residents,” said City Council President John Vieau. “I thank the Mayor for a seamless budget process and look forward to what we can accomplish in the next fiscal year.”
“This budget tries to strike a balance between the needs of our schools and City with the ability to pay of our taxpayers. I thank the City Council and School Committee for their efforts in that regard,” said Mayor Richard J. Kos.
