After 7 years as the first Director of the Department of Veterans’ Services, Kimberly Babin is retiring and pursuing a career as an investigator with U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Babin began her career as the Director of the Department of Veterans’ Services in April 2010. Previously, she was on active duty for six years at Westover ARB as a Non Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Family Readiness Center before working for the Massachusetts Army National Guard as a Family Assistance Center Coordinator.
As the Director of the Department of Veterans’ Services, Kimberly worked closely with the veterans of the City of Chicopee to establish programs and to honor those who have served our country. She set up the Veteran’s Advisory board, with 4 military members and 3 civilians to help facilitate the director, as well as advocating for the Memorial Day Observance Committee and the work they have done with the Chicopee Memorial Day Parade and other Memorial Day events. Babin has also worked with local organizations and businesses to help facilitate programs such as Employ Wisdom ~ Hire a Veteran, Home for the Brave Loan Program, and Graduates to Guardians. She is also responsible for the Disabled American Veterans assisting local veterans at the Veterans’ Office to handle disability claims. She sits on the War on Terror Memorial Committee and was instrumental in the fundraising success.
“I thank Kimberly for her service to our City as well as to her country and wish her well in her new opportunity,” said Mayor Kos.
In a letter to colleagues, Babin thanked her staff, City leaders and the community for their support and encouragement of the work that they do for the City and its veterans. “It is my honor to pass on my dedication to the mission of the Department of Veterans’ Services to the next generation of leaders and innovators,” Babin stated.
Kimberly Babin will retire at the end of April. The replacement will begin immediately with the Human Resources Department handling the process.
